IONA's Orbix Selected for High Profile Turkish E-government Project

Turkish Ministry of Finance leverages CORBA to enable online tax filing

DUBLIN, Ireland & WALTHAM, Mass. - September 15, 2004 — IONA® Technologies (NASDAQ: IONA), a world leader in high-performance integration solutions for mission-critical IT environments, today announced that Global Forte, a leading IT consulting firm, has selected IONA Orbix® and provided the software to Cybersoft, a leading software house, as the integration solution for one of the Turkish government's most ambitious IT projects.

The Turkish Ministry of Finance has begun a large-scale IT initiative that will make it possible for its citizens to submit their tax returns via the Internet. Planned to go live for the 2005 tax season, the new filing system will use IONA's Orbix, a CORBA-based integration technology, to enable seamless and secure interoperability between the Ministry's Web-based user interfaces and its back-end information management systems. Once deployed, the new application is expected to process nearly five million tax filings per month during peak capacity. Orbix was selected for its industry-proven ability to meet and exceed such mission critical requirements together with IONA's successful track record in the integration of the world's most complex and highly distributed IT systems.

"A project of this size and nature demands industry-proven technologies that consistently deliver on technical performance and enterprise security," said Han Mutlu, President, Global Forte. "This is a highly visible and significant government project and our choice of technology solutions are critical to its success. With its long history of proven deployments in numerous government, financial services and telecommunications applications worldwide, Orbix was our natural choice. The enterprise expertise and experience of IONA's team of consultants and service engineers was also fundamental to our decision."

IONA and Global Forte are currently engaged in a project test phase with a completed pilot expected by October 2004. Full rollout of the service to all Turkish citizens is expected by January 2005.

"Orbix remains the de facto standard for IT projects that require the highest levels of technical excellence and unyielding performance," said Scott Devens, vice president, products, IONA Technologies. "CORBA continues to be a trusted technology upon which new applications are being built, and we look forward to working with Global Forte to deliver more successful CORBA projects in the future."
